Competitor Manager is where to store and monitor broad-view data about your competitors’ websites. Add any domain to see Raven and Moz quality scores, as well as indexed pages and backlink data from MajesticSEO.

With one click, you can also begin in-depth research on the domain.

How It Works

Data stored in Competitor Manager is cached and updated every 30 days. Upon adding a competitor's domain to the tool, you should see broad data from Google AdWords, Moz and other sources within an hour. This data is used in Site Performance and elsewhere in the tool to help inform you about how you stack up against your direct competition.

A Case Study

When managing a campaign, it isn't a bad idea to also keep an eye on that website or business's competitors in the field. Competitor Manager is the place to do just that. Let's say that you're managing the SEO efforts of an electronics company. That company has products in several different areas including televisions, video game systems and MP3 players. You can add the broad competitors who apply to all of the company's endeavors as well as more niche competitors, categorized with tags. You can research these websites quickly and easily to see what everyone else is up to and how you can better support your website.

Add and Edit Competitors

  1. Click the Add Competitor button.

  2. Add your competitors' domains, one per line. You can also optionally add tags in this window.

  3. Click Add to add your competitors.

Edit Competitors

Although competitor domains can not be changed after they've been added to your system, you can associate an organization name and postal code with them for use in Site Performance.

  1. Click the gear icon next to your competitor and select the Edit Competitor option.

  2. Enter your competitor's business or organization name and postal code.

  3. Click Submit to save these changes.

You can see this information in the table in Competitor Manager and in Site Performance.

Tag Competitors

Competitors in Competitor Manager can be tagged to assist in organizing your data in this tool. To add a tag to a competitor, click the gear icon next to that URL and select Add Tag. Click the Add button to add the tag. Please note that you can only add one tag at a time to existing competitors. To remove a tag, click the X link next to the tag that you would like to delete. You can view and edit all of the tags in your account with the Tag Manager tool.

To remove a tag, click the X link next to the tag that you would like to delete. You can also view and edit all of the tags in your account with the Tag Manager tool found in Campaign > Tag Manager.

In addition to the process for adding tags to existing competitors, tags can also be added to new competitors in the Add Competitor process. When adding new competitors, use the Tags field to add tags to all of your new competitors. Separate different tags using a comma.

You can also use the Bulk Actions menu to add tags to more than one competitor at a time.

  1. Select the competitors you would like to add tags.
  2. Select Add Tags from the Bulk Action menu.

  3. Click Apply.
  4. Enter your tags, one per line. When finished click the Add button.

Removing Competitors

There are two ways to remove competitors form Competitor Manager.

  1. Remove individual competitors by clicking the gear icon and selecting Remove from Manager.

  2. Remove competitors in bulk from Competitor Manager using the Bulk Actions menu. Check the competitors you would like to remove. Select Remove from Competitor Manager in the Bulk Actions menu. Don't forget to click Apply to complete the removal.


These are definitions for the columns displayed in the Competitor Manager:

  • Organization Name: The name of the business, if added for local tracking in Site Performance.
  • Postal Code: The postal code or zip code of the physical location of the competitor.
  • Quality: The Raven Tools Quality Analyzer score for the competitor website.
  • Alexa Rank: This indicates how popular this URL is with users of the Alexa Toolbar. The rank is calculated using a combination of average daily visitors and page views to the URL over the past three months. The best possible Alexa Traffic Rank is 1.
  • mozRank: Refers to Moz’s general, logarithmically scaled 10-point measure of global link authority (or popularity). For more information, see Moz's mozRank documentation.
  • Moz Authority: Refers to Moz's Domain Authority score, which predicts how well a web page will rank on a domain. It's calculated on a 100-point, logarithmic scale. For more information, see Moz's Domain Authority documentation.
  •  mozTrust: A quality trust score from Moz based on a 1-10 scale. It measures link trust. For more information, see Moz's MozTrust documentation.
  • MajesticSEO Pages: The number of pages MajesticSEO has indexed for the website in their Historical Index.
  • MajesticSEO Links: The number of external backlinks MajesticSEO has in their Historical Index for the website.
  • .GOV: Number of .GOV domains with backlinks built to the researched root domain or URL.
  • .EDU: Number of .EDU domains with backlinks built to the researched root domain or URL. (Ex: and will count as 2 and not 1.)
  • WHOIS Created: Domain creation date.
  • WHOIS Expires: Domain expiration date.

Display Options

Click the Display Options icon to adjust your view of the data reported. Then, check the boxes next to the data you wish to view.


Search Bar

When viewing competitors, you are able to filter specific resultes based on search criteria. Using the search bar, you can, for instance, only display URLS that include "wordpress." The search field is not able to conduct boolean searched, but can be used to find URLs containing a particular word or exact phrase. Just enter your phrase and click Search to filter your results.

To return to the original listing, click the black X next to your search phrase.


Adding Filters

To create a new filter, click the filter icon and choose Create New Filter.



You can research a particular competitor using Raven Tools Research Central. To research a competitor, click the gear icon and select Research Competitor.


You will be taken to Research Central where you can conduct numerous research on a particular competitor.

Reporting and Exporting

To build a PDF Report or export a CSV of competitors click the Table Options icon.


Report Wizard

You can also build more in-depth reports in Report Wizard.

  1. Go to Reports > Wizard.
  2. Add or edit a report.
  3. Add a Campaign: Competitor Manager reporting module.
  4. Edit the module. You can edit the module title, limit the number of results, add a summary, toggle on or off columns, reorder columns, or filter results by a filter set.
  5. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the reporting module.
  6. Click the Run Report link at the bottom to build a PDF report or click Save and Close to save the report.
