How do I embed images and other outside content into my WYSIWYG report?

Follow

When creating a report in Raven, you have the option of adding a blank Text Summary to your report, which can serve as a designated area for analysis, additional information or anything else. These summaries are essentially blank HTML slates for you to work with — but did you know that you can add content other than just regular text?

Embed Images

Images under 2MB can be uploaded directly to Raven, where we'll securely store your files for display in reports. As long as the files is in a JPG, PNG, or GIF format, Raven can display it in a Text Summary widget.

Here's how to embed images in your report:

  1. Edit an existing report or create a new one in Reports > WYSIWYG Reports.
  2. Click the Add Section button and choose Text Summary.
  3. In the Text Summary, click the Image icon.
  4. Click the Upload button and select your image. Be sure that it is in an approved file format and is less than 2MB in size.
  5. Click the Submit button to add your Text Summary with image to the report.

You can add as many images as you'd like to a Text Summary — including animated GIFs. Be aware, though, that animated GIFs will freeze to their first frame when exported as part of a PDF.

Embed Social Media Posts

Many social media networks allow for embedding posts on external websites. Using the Text Summary widget, you can embed posts from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram — among other social networks.

Follow these steps to add a social media post to your report:

  1. Edit an existing report or create a new one in Reports > WYSIWYG Reports.
  2. Click the Add Section button and choose Text Summary.
  3. In the visual editor click the Source button to change it from WYSIWYG to coding mode.
  4. Find the embed code for the social media post you want to embed:
    • Facebook: Click the arrow in the top-right corner of the post you want to embed and choose the Embed Post option.
    • Twitter: Click the More link at the bottom of the Tweet you want to embed and choose the Embed Tweet option.
    • Instagram: Click the "..." button when viewing an image and choose the Embed option.
  1. Copy the embed code discovered in Step 4 and paste it into your Text Summary.
  2. Click the Submit button to add your Text Summary with the social media post embedded.

There are some social media networks which are not supported through this method, including Google+. Additionally, Raven's reports may not format this data as expected from previews. Advanced users may want to adjust the CSS parameters of their embedded objects to best results.

Embed YouTube Videos

Videos can be embedded into Raven reports as well. This includes videos from YouTube, Vimeo and other video networks. For this example, we'll walk through embedding YouTube videos.

  1. Edit an existing report or create a new one in Reports > WYSIWYG Reports.
  2. Click the Add Section button and choose Text Summary.
  3. In the visual editor click the Source button to change it from WYSIWYG to coding mode.
  4. Find the embed code for the YouTube video that you want to embed by navigating to the video, clicking the Share icon, selecting Embed and then copying the code.
  5. Paste the embed code into your Text Summary.
  6. Click the Submit button to add your Text Summary with the video embedded.

Videos will not appear in the PDF version of your reports, but will be playable in regular HTML reports.

What About iFrames?

Raven's WYSIWYG Reports does not support embedding iFrames. Although this is the chosen embed method for Google Docs and Google Sheets (among other tools), iFrames can cause security and usability issues that we are not willing to expose our customers to.
